In the upmarket 16th arrondissement, not far from the Eiffel Tower, you’ll find the Elysées Union Hôtel housed in the 19th-century building where French novelist Marcel Proust once lived. Book one of the single, double, triple or quadruple rooms – or even a fully fitted two-bedroom apartment. This property is ideal for solo travellers, groups or extended stays in an attractive and residential part of the city.

This contemporary boutique hotel sits just outside Paris, a short 20-minute journey on the RER transit system. The hotel prides itself on its warm hospitality and relaxed vibe, and you’re invited to enjoy a glass of wine and small plates every evening as part of the daily apéro. The hotel has also done away with the traditional reception, breakfast room and meeting space and replaced them all with one informal lounge, the Club, where you can relax with a drink and help yourself to books and magazines.
Hôtel de Sévigné

Hôtel de Sévigné is tucked away in a typical Parisian building on a quiet street in the well-heeled 16th arrondissement. You’ll be within walking distance of the Champs-Élysées, Arc de Triomphe and Eiffel Tower, not to mention some of the best museums in the city, including the Musée Yves Saint Laurent Paris and Palais de Tokyo. It’s ideal if you’re looking for a weekend packed with sightseeing.

If you want to be right in the heart of Paris, Hotel Britannique is the place to stay; it’s just a short walk from some of the most famous sights in the city, including the Louvre and Tuileries Garden. The hotel is also just steps from the Seine and its two islands, the Île Saint-Louis and Île de la Cité – home to the Notre-Dame – which make a particularly romantic walk at night.

This boutique hotel is just a short walk from the famed Eiffel Tower, built by Gustave Eiffel, and features a fantastic view of the famous monument from the appropriately named Gustave room. Hotel des Grands Hommes

Hotel des Grands Hommes lies in one of the most iconic locations in Paris, right on the Place du Panthéon. The historic property, dating back to the 18th century, is also where poets André Breton and Philippe Soupault wrote the first work of literary Surrealism, Les Champs Magnétiques. It’s now a boutique hotel furnished in the Napoleonic style, with tactile wall coverings, lavish fabrics and a breakfast room where you can dine under the original stone vaulted ceiling.

In the business area of La Défense, citizenM’s second hotel in Paris is ideal if you’re travelling for work; however, it’s only 15 minutes into town by metro. The affordable hotel group has packed all the daily comforts you need into its contemporary-style guest rooms, such as extra-large king-size beds and power showers. It’s also pretty high-tech, so make sure to download the app to control in-room features and access extras such as free movies. This is a great option for a budget hotel in Paris.

Exe Panorama sits in the hip 10th arrondissement and is just a short walk from the bars and restaurants of the 9th arrondissement, as well as the Palais Garnier. The hotel takes its inspiration from some of the great musical legends in France – such as Édith Piaf and Jacques Brel – and has decorated each of its guest rooms with lyrics from a famous French song.
Hôtel Eugène en Ville

The imaginary character of Eugène, a top-hatted Parisian dandy who appreciates the finer things in life, oversees this charming boutique address. Each room is tastefully furnished with art deco prints and antique-style furniture, but if you really want to splash out, book the suite with a private hammam. The hotel’s also well located, just a 10-minute walk from one of the buzziest streets in Paris – Rue des Martyrs.
